Martin Jakobsson

Co-Head of Arctic and North Pacific Center

Martin Jakobsson is a Professor of Marine Geology and Geophysics and Dean of Earth and Environmental Science at Stockholm University. His research includes the oceanographic and geological history of oceans, with a focus on Polar Oceans, their sea ice and marine ice sheets. He has been the chief or co-chief scientist of nine international icebreaker expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic and has visited the North Pole three times.

In 2011 Martin was awarded the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) medal in recognition of exceptional and sustained scientific contributions to the understanding of the Arctic, and is an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Swedish Royal Society of Naval Sciences and the Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research.

Martin completed his PhD in 2000 at the Department of Geological Sciences from Stockholm University.
