In November 2020, the Brazillian Marine Geology and Geophysics Program hosted its 51st annual meeting along with a series of workshops hydrography-related including a talk by Dr. Vicki Ferrini, (LDEO, Columbia University/USA) focusing on “The Seabed 2030 Project: challenges and opportunities in the South Atlantic”. The very first seabed 2030 webinar in Brazil was held during this meeting in partnership with the Brazillian Society of Hydrography. The aim was to present the Brazilian stakeholders the importance of mapping the seafloor and the contribution to the Nippon Foundation Seabed 2030 Project. The section was composed of members of the Brazilian navy (Commanders: Luiz Fonseca, Ana Alberoni, Christofer Florentino, Costa Neves, and Vladimir Maluf), academic professors (Dr. Alex Bastos/UFES and Dr. Arthur Ayres Netto/UFF) and Jamie Mc Michael-Philip, Seabed 2030 director.
