We invite you to participate in a two-part webinar series entitled “Mapping the Seafloor around Africa” jointly organized by the UNESCO/IOC’s Sub Commission for Africa and the Adjacent Island States (IOCAFRICA) and the Nippon Foundation – GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project’s Regional Center for the Atlantic and Indian Oceans on February 18 and February 24, 2021. The webinars will bring together stakeholders from the region to discuss bathymetry status and needs with the goal of uniting the seafloor mapping community to explore the challenges and opportunities in seafloor mapping around Africa.
The sessions are open for participation by all interested actors in the seafloor-mapping field in the region. It is targeted specifically at professionals involved in coastal surveys and coastal planning and management as well as specialists and researchers whose work involves the use of bathymetric data.
Session 02: Achieving Comprehensive Seafloor Mapping in Africa by 2030.

The focus of the second session will be to brainstorm on how stakeholders in Africa can achieve the goal of comprehensive mapping of its seafloor by 2030. The goal of this will be to establish relationships between stakeholders and efforts that can be united to help us reach our common goals. The primary goal of the second session will be to collaboratively develop strategies and priorities for working together to map the seafloor around Africa.
